16 ozs. CYNTHIA Germantown or 18 ozs. CYNTHIA Knitting Worsted Scarlet No. 310.
One pair bone needles No. 5 (3¾ MM).
One pair bone needles No. 3 (3 MM).
Five-inch zip­per fastener.

Gauge: 6 sts = 1 inch

Snow Suit

Sweater: With No. 3 needles, cast on 72 sts. Work ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 2½ inches. Change to No. 5 needles and work stockinette st for 9 inches. Bind off 4 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Work even on remaining 64 sts until armhole measures 4 inches from the bound off sts. Next K row: K 21 and leave on stitch holder for right shoulder, bind off the next 22, K 21. Work these 21 sts in garter st until there are 4 ridges on right side of work. Cast on 11 sts at neck edge (32 sts) and work even, working first 5 sts at neck edge in garter st and remaining 27 sts in stockin­ette, until armhole measures same as armhole on back. Cast on 4 sts on armhole edge and work even (continue working 5 sts at neck edge in garter st) until front opening measures 5 inches. End at neck edge and leave these 36 sts on stitch holder. Slip the 21 sts for right shoulder onto needle and work to correspond, ending at armhole edge. Next K row: K across sts on both fronts and then work even on these 72 sts for 9 inches. Change to No. 3 needles and work ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 2½ inches. Bind off.

Sleeves: With No. 5 needles, pick up 50 sts around armhole edge. Work even for 1 inch. Decrease 1 st both ends of next row. Repeat decreases every inch until 36 sts remain. Work even until sleeve measures 8 inches, change to No. 3 needles and work ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 2½ inches. Bind off.

Collar: With No. 5 needles, pick up 60 sts around neck edge. Work garter st for 28 rows (14 ridges) and bind off. Sew sleeve and underarm seams. Sew zipper in front opening.

Leggings: With No. 5 needles, cast on 72 sts. Work ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 4 rows. Next row: K 2, * yarn over, K 2 together, repeat from * across row, ending K 2. Work ribbing for 2 inches more, then work stockinette st for 8½ inches. Decrease 1 st both ends of every K row until 62 sts remain, decrease both ends every second K row until 50 sts remain then decrease both ends every 3rd row until 36 sts remain (leg should measure 10 inches) . Work ribbing of K 4, P 4 for 6 rows. Next row: Bind off 4 sts, continue ribbing across row. Next row: Bind off 16 sts, continue ribbing across row. Work even in ribbing on remaining 16 sts for 12 rows, then work garter st, decreasing 1 st both ends every row until 8 sts remain. Bind off. Work other leg to correspond. Sew up seams. Run elastic through open work row and sew a strip of elastic across bottom of each leg to go under sole of shoe.

Hood

With No. 5 needles, cast on 20 sts. * Knit 1 row and cast on 10 sts at end of row, repeat from * until there are 80 sts on needle. K 4 rows even. Next row: K 3, K 2 together, * K 6, K 2 together, repeat from * across row, ending K 3 (70 sts). Next row: K 2, K 2 together, * K 5, K 2 together, repeat from * across row, ending K 3 (60 sts). ** Work stockinette st for 1 inch. Next row: K 1, * yarn over, slip 1 st, K 1 st, pass the slipped st over the knit st and off needle, repeat from * across row. Purl the next 3 rows. Repeat from ** 3 times. On the first K row after the 4th pat­tern, work as follows: K 20, increase 1 st in the 21st and every other st until there are 11 in­creases, continue across row. Continue stockin­ette st for 1 inch, work another pattern row, P 2 rows and bind off. Sew back of hood together on wrong side.                         

Band: With No. 5 needles, cast on 90 sts and K even until band measures 1 inch in width. Bind off. Pin or baste band to lower edge of hood on right side, easing hood slightly into band, exclud­ing knitted front facing and leaving about 2½ inches of band free on right side. SC band to hood, then continue SC around entire band, chaining 3 at tab end for button hole. SC around entire facing. Sew button on left end of band.
