MATERIAL:
3 (4-5) skeins Knitting Worsted (2 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 3 and No. 5
1 set sock needles No. 3
1 stitch holder

GAUGE: 5 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN:
1st row: * K7 (8-9), P1, K6, P1, repeat from * across row, end K7 (8-9)
2nd row: * P7 (8-9), K1, P6, K1, repeat from * across row, end P7 (8-9)
Repeat 1st and 2nd row twice more.
7th row: * K7 (8-9), P1, slip next 3 sts. to an extra needle and hold in front of work, K next 3 sts., then K the 3 sts. from extra needle, P1, repeat from * across row, end K7 (8-9)
8th row: like 2nd row
9th row: like 1st row
Cont. to work this way cabling the K6 sts. every 8th row on right side.

BACK:
Cast on 60 (64-68) sts. with No. 3 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch. Incr. 7 (8-9) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 5 needles and pattern. With 67 (72-77) sts. work even until the entire piece measures 8 (9-10) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 4 (5-6) sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (55 (58-61) sts. left). Work even for 5¼ (5¾-6) inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 4 (6-6) rows 8 (6-6) sts., rem. 23 (22-25) sts. bind off for neck.

FRONT:
Work as Back until armhole is bound off. Work in pattern across 27 (29-30) sts. and slip them to a holder. Work in pattern across rem. 28 (29-31) sts. only. Decr. for neck 1 st. at center edge every 3rd row until 16 (18-18) sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 8 (6-6) sts. 2 (3-3) times. Connect yarn to other side of neck and slip sts. from holder back to needle. Finish this side of neck to correspond.

SLEEVE:
Cast on 36 (38-40) sts. with No. 3 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch. Incr. 1 (2-3) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 5 needles and pattern. 1st row: K7 (8-9), P1, K6, P1, K7 (8-9), P1, K6, P1, K7 (8-9). Cont. cable pattern as on Back and Front. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 6th row until 47 (52-55) sts. are on needle, working incr. sts. in pattern. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 9 (10-11) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 3 (4-5) sts. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until cap measures 2¼ (2½-3) inch. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row twice. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of the next 4 rows. Bind off. Work the other sleeve to correspond.

FINISHING:
Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Neckband: Right side facing you pick up with No. 3 sock needles 76 (80-84) sts. around the neck and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 5 (6-6) rows, decr. 1 st. before and after the center st. at V neck every other row. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Block to size.
