Materials Required—AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED
4—1¼-oz. Skeins White or any Color desired.
1 Pair No. 10 Bone Knitting Needles.

Gauge: 11 sts = 3 inches (Stockinette st).

Work with double strand of yarn.

Right Mitten. Cast on 43 sts, p 25, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 8.
1st Row of Pattern. (Right side of work) k 8, p 2, sl the next 3 sts on a double pointed needle keeping sts in front of work, k the next 3 sts, k the 3 sts from double pointed needle, p 2, k 25.
2nd Row. P 25, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 8.
3rd Row. K 2, k 2 tog, k 4, p 2, k 6, p 2, k 5, k 2 tog, k 5, k 2 tog, k 5, k 2 tog, k 4.
4th Row. P 22, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 7.
5th Row. K 3, k 2 tog, k 2, p 2, k 6, p 2, k 1, k 2 tog, k 7, k 2 tog, k 7, k 2 tog, k 1.
6th Row. P 19, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 6.
7th Row. K 6, p 2, sl next 3 sts on double pointed needle, k next 3 sts, k sts on double pointed needle, p 2, k 19.
8th Row. P 19, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 6.
9th Row. K 1, k 2 tog, k 3, p 2, k 6, p 2, k 5, k 2 tog, k 5, k 2 tog, k 5.
10th Row. P 17, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 5.
11th Row. K 1, k 2 tog twice, p 2, k 6, p 2, k 1, k 2 tog, k 11, k 2 tog, k 1.
12th Row. P 15, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 3.
13th Row. K 1, k 2 tog, p 2, work cable twist, p 2, k 11, k 2 tog, k 2.

19th Row. K 2, p 2, work cable twist, p 2, k 14. Work 2 more cables and 1 more row.
Next row starts thumb increase—1st Row. Work 14 sts, increase one st by making a loop on right hand needle, k 1, increase one st in same manner, k 11.
2nd Row. P 16, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 2.
3rd Row. Work 14 sts, increase one st, k 3, increase one st, k 11.
4th Row. P 18, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 2. Continue pattern increasing one st each side of thumb every other row twice more (34 sts in row).
Work 1 more row.
Next Row. Work 14 sts and place on a st holder, k the next 9 sts and place remaining sts on st holder.
Thumb. Cast on one st at end of needle and work on these 10 sts for 2¼ inches, ending with Purl row. Work 2 sts together across row, break yarn leaving an end for sewing. Draw yarn through remaining sts twice, draw together and sew thumb seam.
Working from the right side, pick up 14 sts on one needle, attach yarn, pick up and k 3 sts on the cast on thumb st, sl remaining 11 sts on free needle and k, (28 sts) continue pattern until there are 11 cable twists from the beginning, then work 1 more row.
Next Row. Start decreasing—1st Row. K 2, p 2 tog, k 6, p 2 tog, k 4, k 2 tog, k 6, sl 1, k 1, pass sl st over k st, k 2 (24 sts).
2nd Row. P 14, k 1, p 6, k 1, p 2.
3rd Row. K 2, k 2 tog, k 4, sl 1, k 1, pass sl st over k st, k 4, k 2 tog, k 4, sl 1, k 1, pass sl st over k st, k 2 (20 sts).
4th Row. Purl across row.
5th Row. K 2 tog across row and draw remaining sts together.
Sew side seam. Work a row of s c around top of mitten.
Left Mitten. Reverse cable by working from end of row to the beginning of row as follows: 1st Row. P 8, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 25.

Work with single strand of yarn.

Cast on 94 sts and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 2 inches.
1st Row of Pattern. P 38, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 38.
2nd Row. (Right side of work) k 38, p 2, k 6, p 2, k 6, p 2, k 38.
3rd Row. P 38, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 38.
4th Row. K 38, p 2, k 6, p 2, k 6, p 2, k 38.
5th Row. P 38, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 6, k 2, p 38.
6th Row. K 38, p 2, place next 3 sts on a double pointed needle, k next 3 sts, k 3 sts on spare needle (cable twist), p 2, repeat cable twist, p 2, k 38.
Repeat these 6 rows for pattern.
Work 1 more cable and 1st 5 rows of next cable.
Next Row. Decrease 3 sts evenly spaced in each stockinette section (6 sts in all), then decrease every 2nd cable twist row in same manner three more times. Decrease in same manner every 3rd cable twist row until 14 sts remain in each stockinette section. Work 3 cables and decrease in next cable. Work 3 more cables.
Next Row. P 6, p 2 tog, p 3, k 2 tog, p 6, k 2 tog, p 6, k 2 tog, p 3, p 2 tog, p 6.
Break yarn and draw remaining sts together. Sew seam.
Tassel. Cut 75—20-inch strands and tie in the center. Cut one end and tie again about 1 inch from top.
