MATERIAL:
Skirt: 3 balls Fingering Yarn (1 oz. ball)
Blouse: 3 balls Fingering Yarn (1 oz. ball)
1 ball Fingering Yarn (1 oz. ball) contrasting color for yoke
1 pair S.P. Knitting needles No. 3 (3¼ mm.)
1 circular Knitting needle No. 3—24 inch. long
1 bone crochet hook No. 3
7 buttons
Elastic for waistband
GAUGE: 7 sts. = 1 inch
SKIRT: With No. 3 needles cast on 100 sts. and work in pattern: 1st row: (right side) K1, * K2, P2, K2, P2, K2, P12, repeat from * across row, end K3. 2nd row: (wrong side) K1, * yarn over, K2, pull the yarn over the K2 sts., K2, yarn over, K2, pull the yarn over the K2 sts., K2, yarn over, K2, pull the yarn over the K2 sts., K12, repeat from * across row, end K1. Repeat these 2 rows for ½ inch. * Next row: incr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every P12 gore, work even for 14 rows. Repeat from * until there are 24 sts. in each P gore. Work even for 14 rows or any desired length. Change to garter st. and work 5 ridges. Bind off. Make a second piece the same way.
FINISHING: Sew up side seams. With No. 3 hook crochet for waistband around top of skirt 2 rows s. c. Next row: * 1 d. c. in each of the next 3 sts., ch. 2, skip 2, repeat from * all around. Work 1 more row s. c. and fasten off. Steam lightly. Pull elastic through waistband.
BLOUSE
BACK: Cast on 92 sts. with No. 3 needles and work in pattern like skirt, having only P10 sts. in between each pattern. Work even until the entire piece measures 7 inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 7 sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (74 sts. left.) Work even for 2 inch, from the first binding off. Work over 24 sts. in pattern and slip them to a holder. Bind off 26 sts. in center, work over rem. 24 sts. in pattern. Bind off 3 sts. every other row at center edge until no sts. are left over. Work the other side to correspond.
FRONT: Cast on 48 sts. with No. 3 needles. Work in pattern and keep the 8 center front sts. throughout the entire front in garter st. for buttonhole border. Work even until the entire piece measures like back. Bind off for armhole at seam edge at the beg. of the next row 6 sts. and at the beg. of the next row at seam edge 2 sts. (40 sts. left.) Work even for 2½ inch, from the first binding off. Slip the 8 border sts. to a holder to be worked later and bind off for neck 8 sts. at center edge and then always 3 sts. every other row at center edge until no sts. are left over. Work the other front to correspond and put in 7 buttonholes in front border, starting first buttonhole after ½ inch. (To make a buttonhole: K2 sts., bind off 2 sts., work to end of row. On next row, cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts.) Repeat buttonhole every 2 inch, 6 times more.
SLEEVE: Cast on 54 sts. with No. 3 needles and work in garter st. for 4 ridges, increasing 16 sts. at even intervals across next row and work even until the entire sleeve measures 2½ inch. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 5 sts. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until 54 sts. are left. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row until 46 sts. are left. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of each row until 26 sts. are left over. Bind off. Work the other sleeve to correspond.
FINISHING: Sew up side and sleeve seams. Yoke: Right side facing you, pick up with m. c. and No. 3 circular needle 36 sts. across right front, cast on 28 sts. for first shoulder, pick up across back 75 sts., cast on 28 sts. for second shoulder and pick up 36 sts. across left front (203 sts. in all). 1st row: (wrong side) * P3, K1, repeat from * across row, end P3. 2nd row: (right side) * K3, P1, repeat from * across row. Repeat first row once more. Change to c. c. and work 4 more rows in ribbing as before. Change to m. c. and work 2 rows, decreasing 1 st. in each K3 section across first row. Change to c. c. and work 14 rows. Change to m. c. and work 4 rows, decreasing 1 st. in each K2 section across first row (ribbing K1, P1 left). Change to c. c. and work 2 rows. Change to m. c. and work next row for beading: * K1, P1, K1, P1, yarn over, P2 tog., repeat from * across row. Work 3 more rows K1, P1 and bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Take border sts. off the holder and work them in garter st. as high as yoke, putting in buttonholes up to top. Bind off. Sew border to yoke. Make a drawstring by crocheting ch. sts. with 3 strands each of m. c. and c. c. Sew in sleeves holding in extra fullness on top. Sew on buttons and pull drawstring through beading row. Steam lightly.
