1 pair S.P. Knitting Needles No. 3 (3¼ mm.) and No. 5 (4 mm.)
6 buttons
GAUGE: 6 sts. = 1 inch
YOKE PATTERN:
1st and 2nd row: * K2, P2, repeat from * across row, end P2.
3rd row: (Right side) * K the 2nd st. off left hand needle first and pull it over the first st., K the first st., P2, repeat from * across row, end P2.
4th, 5th and 6th row: like 1st row.
Repeat pattern from 3rd to 6th row incl. for yoke.
BACK: Cast on 72 sts. with No. 3 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch. Change to No. 5 needles and stockinette st., increasing 4 sts. at even intervals across next row. With 76 sts. work even until the entire piece measures 9½ inch. or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 4 sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (64 sts. left.) Start baby-cable pattern for yoke and work even for 5¾ inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 4 rows 10 sts., rem. 24 sts. bind off for neck.
FRONT: Cast on 42 sts. with No. 3 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch., keeping the 6 center front sts. in garter at. for buttonhole border throughout the entire front. Change to No. 5 needles and stockinette st. and incr. 2 sts. at even intervals across first row. With 44 sts. work even until the entire piece measures like back. Bind off for armhole at seam edge at the beg. of the next row 4 sts. and at the beg. of the next row at seam edge 2 sts. (38 sts. left.) Start baby-cable pattern for yoke and work even for 4 inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for neck 12 sts. at center edge and then always 2 sts. at neck edge every other row until 20 sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 10 sts. twice. Work the other front to correspond and put in 6 buttonholes in front border, starting first buttonhole after ½ inch. (To make a buttonhole: K2 sts., bind off 2 sts., work to end of row. On next row, cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts.) Repeat buttonhole every 2 inch. 5 times more.
SLEEVE: Cast on 40 sts. with No. 3 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch. Change to No. 5 needles and stockinette st. increasing 4 sts. at even intervals across next row. Increase 1 st. at the beg. and at the end of every 6th row until 56 sts. on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 11½ inch. or any desired length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 3 sts. Decrease 1 st. at the beg. of the next 6 rows (44 sts. left). Start baby-cable pattern. Dec. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row until 38 sts. left. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of each row until 20 sts. are left over. Bind off. Work the other sleeve to correspond.
FINISHING: Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves being careful to match Baby cable pattern. Right side facing you, pick up with No. 3 needles 68 sts. around the neck. K2, P2 for 7 rows. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Sew on buttons and steam lightly.
