MATERIAL:
4 balls Germantown—main color (1 oz. ball)
2 balls Germantown—contrasting color (1 oz. ball)
1 pair S.P. Knitting Needles No. 3 (3¼ mm.) and No. 5 (4 mm.)
1 bone crochet hook No. 5
6 buttons
GAUGE: 6 sts. = 1 inch
PATTERN:
1st row: * K4, P1, repeat from * across row, end K4.
2nd row: P across.
Repeat these 2 rows for pattern.
BACK: Cast on 64 sts. with m. c. and No. 3 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch. Increase 5 sts. at even intervals across last row. Change to No. 5 needles and pattern. With 69 sts. work even until the entire piece measures 9 inch. or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 5 sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (55 sts. left.) Work even for 5½ inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 4 rows 9 sts., rem. 19 sts. bind off for neck.
FRONT: Cast on 32 sts. with m. c. and No. 3 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch., increasing 2 sts. in last row. Change to No. 5 needles and work in pattern with contrasting color. With 34 sts. work even until the entire piece measures like back. Bind off for armhole at seam edge at the beg. of the next row 6 sts. and at the beg. of the next row at seam edge 2 sts. (26 sts. left.) Work even for 4 inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for neck 5 sts. at center edge and then always 2 sts. at neck edge every other row until 18 sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 9 sts. twice. Work the other front to correspond.
SLEEVE: Cast on 40 sts. with m. c. and No. 3 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch., increasing 4 sts. at even intervals across last row. Change to No. 5 needles and pattern. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and at the end of every 6th row until 52 sts. on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 10 inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 3 sts. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until 22 sts. are left. Bind off. Work the other sleeve to correspond.
FINISHING: Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams and sew in sleeves. With m. c. crochet 5 rows s. c. (54 sts.) down each front, making in 2nd row on one side 6 buttonholes spaced evenly apart. (To make a buttonhole, ch. 2, skip 2 sts. On next row, work 2 s. c. in ch. 2 space of previous row.) With m. c. crochet 3 rows s. c. (44 sts.) around the neck. Sew on buttons and steam lightly.
