1 pair S.P. knitting needles No. 2 (3 mm.) and No. 3 (3¼ mm.)
1 set D.P. knitting needles No. 2 (3 mm.)
1 bone crochet hook No. 3
2 small buttons
GAUGE: 7 sts. = 1 inch
BACK: Cast on 88 (84) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2½ inch. Increase 3 sts. at even intervals across last row. Change to No. 3 needles and pattern.
1st row: K7 (5) * P1, K3, P1, K13 repeat from * all across, end K7 (5).
2nd row: P7 (5) * K1, P3, K1, P13 repeat from * across, end P7 (5).
3rd row: K7 (5) * make a drawn cable over the next 5 sts. like 3rd row of Skirt with Drawn Cables Pattern, K13 repeat from * across, end K7 (5).
4th row: Like 2nd row.
5th row: Like 1st row.
6th row: Like 2nd row.
7th row: K7 (5) * make a drawn cable over the next 5 sts. like in 7th row of Skirt with Drawn Cables Pattern, K13 repeat from * across, end K7 (5).
8th row: Like 2nd row.
9th row: Like 1st row.
10th row: Like 2nd row.
Repeat pattern from 3rd to 10th row incl. until the entire sweater measures 9 (8½) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 4 (3) sts. and at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 (2) sts. 79 (77 sts.) left, ending with 1st row of pattern.
Start yoke now:
1st row: (K1 only for size 6) * P1, K3, P1, K4, P1, K3, P1, K4, repeat from * across (end for size 6 only with K1). Continue to work the drawn cable pattern as before, but work it in each P1, K3, P1, group. Work even for 5½ (5¼) inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 6 (2) rows 8 (11) sts. (for size 4 for 2 rows—12 sts.) rem. 31 sts. bind off for neck.
FRONT: Work front the same way as back until 3½ (3¼) inch. from the first binding off. Work 30 (29) sts. in pattern and put them on a stitch holder. Bind off for neck 19 (19) sts. and work the rem. 30 (29) sts. in pattern. Bind off 2 sts. every other row at neck edge until 24 (23) sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 8 (11) sts. 3 times (once) (for size 4—12 sts. once). Work other side of neck to correspond.
SLEEVE: Cast on 58 (56) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for ¾ inch. Increase 12 sts. at even intervals across last row. Change to No. 3 needles and pattern as on yoke of sweater. With 70 (68) sts. work even until the whole sleeve measures 3¼ (3) inch. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 6 (5) sts. Decrease 1 st. at the beg. of the next 4 (6) rows. (54 (52) sts. left). Work even for 1¼ (1) inch. Decrease 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row 6 times. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg, of each row until 28 (26) sts. are left over. Bind off. Make the other sleeve to correspond.
FINISHING: Sew up side, sleeve and shoulder seams and sew in sleeve, gathering extra fullness on top. Right side facing you, pick up 98 sts. with No. 2 sock needles around neck and K1, P1 for 6 rows. Bind off K as K and P as P. Steam lightly.
