Size 10 to 12 Years

MATERIAL:
4 skeins knitting worsted (3¾ oz. skeins)
1 pair S.P. knitting needles No. 3 (3¼ mm.) and No. 6 (4½ mm.)
1 bone crochet hook No. 5
1 button

GAUGE: 6 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN: multiple of 6
1st row: (wrong side) * P1, K4, P1, repeat from * across row.
2nd row: * K1, P4, K1, repeat from * across row.
3rd row: Like first row.
4th row: Like 2nd row.
5th row: Like 1st row.
6th row: * slip the K st. to an extra needle and hold in front of work, P2, K the st. from the extra needle, slip next 2 P sts. to an extra needle and hold in back of work, K1, P the 2 sts. from extra needle, repeat from * across row.
7th row: * K2, P2, K2, repeat from * across row.
8th row: * P2, K2, P2, repeat from * across row.
9th row: Like 7th row.
10th row: Like 8th row.
11th row: Like 7th row.
12th row: * slip the P2 sts. to an extra needle and hold in back of work, K1, P the 2 sts. from extra needle, slip next K st. to an extra needle and hold in front of work, P2, K the st. from extra needle, repeat from * across row.
Repeat these 12 rows for pattern.

BACK: Cast on 96 sts. with No. 6 needles and work in pattern for 13½ inch. or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 5 sts., at the beg. of the next 4 rows 2 sts. (78 sts. left.) Work even for 6¾ inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for shoul­ders at the beg. of the next 6 rows 8 sts., rem. 30 sts. bind off for neck.

FRONT: Cast on 52 sts. with No. 6 needles and work in pattern for 13½ inch. keeping the 4 center front sts. in garter st. throughout the entire front for border. Bind off for armhole at seam edge 7 sts. and at the beg. of the next 2 rows at seam edge 2 sts. (41 sts. left.) Work even for 4½ inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for neck 11 sts. at center edge and then always 2 sts. at neck edge every other row until 24 sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off 8 sts. at armhole edge 3 times. Work the other front to correspond.

SLEEVE: Cast on 60 sts. with No. 6 needles and work in pattern for 1½ inch. Inc. 1 st, at the beg. and at the end of every 6th row until 72 sts. on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 15 inch. or any desired length to under­arm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 4 sts. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until 56 sts. on needle. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row until 46 sts. are left. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of each row until 28 sts. are left over. Bind off. Work the other sleeve to corre­spond.

POCKET: Cast on 30 sts. with No. 6 needles. Work in pattern for 3½ inch. Bind off. Work 1 row s. c. around entire pocket going in each corner st. 3 times. Fasten off.

FINISHING: Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams and sew in sleeves holding in extra fullness on top. Sew pocket in place.

NECKBAND: Right side facing you, pick up with No. 6 needles 72 sts. around the neck and K 2 rows. 3rd row: K2, bind off 2 sts. (buttonhole), K to end of row. 4th row: K to within buttonhole, cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound-off sts. of pre­vious row, K2. Continue to work garter st. until band is altogether 8 rows wide. Bind off. Sew on button. Steam on wrong side.
