Boy's Shaker Sweater Pattern

Size 10 to 12 Years

MATERIAL:
3 skeins Knitting Worsted (4 oz. skein) Main Color
1 skein Knitting Worsted (2 oz. skein) Contrasting Color
1 pair S.P. knitting needles No. 4 (3½ mm.) and No. 6 (4½ mm.)
1 bone crochet hook No. 6

GAUGE: 5 sts. = 1 inch.

PATTERN: Stock. st. throughout entire sweater.

BACK: Cast on 80 sts. with No. 4 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 3 inch. Change to No. 6 needles and stockinette st. Work even for 2 inch. Then work in stripes as follows: 2 rows c. c., 4 rows m. c., 6 rows c. c., 4 rows m. c., 2 rows c. c. With 80 sts. work even until the entire piece measures 12½ inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beginning of the next 2 rows 4 sts., at the beginning of the next 2 rows 2 sts. Repeat stripe pattern. (68 sts. left.) Work even for 6¾ inch, from the first bind­ing off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 4 rows 10 sts. Rem. 28 sts. bind off for neck.

FRONT: Work front like back.

SLEEVE: Cast on 46 sts, with No. 4 needles and; work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2½ inch. Change to No. 6 needles and stock­inette st. increasing 1 st. at each end of row. Increase 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 6th row until 62 sts. on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 15 inch. or any desired length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 3 sts. Start stripe pattern. Decrease 1 st. at the beg. of each row until 50 sts. on, needle. De­crease 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row until 40 sts. are left. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of each row until 24 sts. are left over. Bind off. Work 2nd sleeve to corres­pond.

FINISHING: Sew up side, sleeve and shoulder seams and crochet 2 rows s. c. around neck. For crew-neck turn down ½ inch. and sew.
