FRONT—With No. 1 needles cast on 120 sts., K. 2 sts., P. 2 sts., (ribbing) for 4 inches.

Change to No. 3½ needles and work in pattern.

Row 1—* K. 1 st., P. 1 st., repeat from * across row.

Row 2—Same as Row 1.

Row 3—* P. 1 st., K. 1 st., repeat from * across row.

Row 4—Same as Row 3.

Repeat these 4 rows for pattern of sweater.

Work 11 inches even, bind off 4 sts. at beginning on the next 2 rows, then decrease 1 st. each side every other row 9 times. When armholes measure 7½ inches work 40 sts., slip these sts. on a stitch holder, bind off. next 14 sts., and on remaining sts. work right shoulder, binding off 2 sts. at the beginning of every other row at neck edge 5 times.

When armhole measures 9 inches, bind off 5 sts. at beginning of every P. row for slanting shoulder (30 sts.).

Work left shoulder to correspond.

BACK—Work the same as front omitting neck opening.

When armholes measure 9 inches bind off 5 sts. at the beginning of the next 12 rows, then bind off remaining sts. for back of neck.

SLEEVES—With No. 1 needles cast on 60 sts., K. 2 sts., P. 2 sts., for 4 inches, change to No. 3½ needles. Work in pattern for 1 inch even, then increase 1 st. each side every inch, 16 times. Work 1 inch even or desired length, bind off 4 sts. at beginning of next 2 rows, then decrease 1 st. each side every other row 9 times, bind off remaining sts.

NECK BAND—Pick up and K. 34 sts. across back of neck, K. 2 sts., P. 2 sts., for 8 rows, bind off loosely.

Pick up 68 sts. across the front and work ribbing same as back.

Sew shoulder seams, sew sleeves in place, sew underarm seams.
