MINERVA SCOTCH SPORTS YARN
4 Skeins

FRONT—With No. 1 steel needles cast on 78 sts., K. 1 st., P. 1 st., (ribbing) for 5 inches. Change to No. 5½ needles and work in pattern as follows:

Row 1—P. 1, * K. 4, P. 1, K. 6, P. 1, repeat from * across row, ending K. 4, P. 1.

Row 2—K. 1, * P. 4, K. 1, P. 6, K. 1, repeat from * across row, ending P. 4, K. 1.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2.

Row 5—P. 1, * K. 4, P. 1, slip next 3 sts. on the double pointed needle, place in back of work, K. next 3 sts., K. the 3 sts. from the double pointed needle (this forms the cable st.), P. 1, repeat from * across row, ending K. 4, P. 1.

Row 6—Same as Row 2.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 three times.

Repeat from Row 5 for entire sweater, (8 rows to a pattern).

Work even until front measures 21½ inches from start. On next K. row start neck opening as follows:

Work 34 sts., slip these sts. on a stitch holder, bind off 10 sts., for front of neck and on remaining 34 sts. work right shoulder.

Bind off 3 sts. at neck end every other row 3 times, then decrease 1 st. every other row 4 times (21 sts. remaining), end with P. row, slip these sts. on a stitch holder. Pick up the first 34 sts. from stitch holder and work left shoulder to correspond, ending on P. row.

On next row work across 21 sts., cast on 36 sts. for back of neck, work 21 sts. from stitch holder (78 sts. on needle). Work back same length as front.

SLEEVES—With No. 1 steel needles cast on 54 sts., K. 1 st., P. 1 st., (ribbing) for 4 inches.

Change to No. 5½ needles and work in pattern same as body of sweater for 4 inches, then increase 1 st. each side every 8th row 9 times (72 sts. on needle). Work even until sleeve measures 22 inches, bind off.

Sew underarm seams for 14½ inches from bottom, sew sleeve seams, sew sleeves in place.

NECK BAND—With No. 1 needles pick up 40 sts. across back of neck. K. 1 st., P. 1 st., (ribbing) for 7 rows, bind off.

Pick up 78 sts. around front of neck, K. 1 st., P. 1 st., for 7 rows, bind off. Sew seam at each shoulder.
