FRONT—Starting at left underarm, with No. 1 Needles cast on 60 sts., work in pattern as follows: P. 1 row, K. 1 row, (Stockinette st.) for 10 rows, then K. 1 row, P. 1 row, for 10 rows. Repeat these 20 rows for entire sweater.

Work 9 rows even, at end of next row cast on 2 sts. (start of armhole), then cast on 2 sts. every 4th row 5 times more, then 2 sts. every other row 5 times (82 sts. on needle). Work 1 row even.

At end of next row cast on 56 sts. to shoulder, then increase 1 st. every 4th row 10 times for slanting shoulder (148 sts. on needle). Work 2 rows even then start V neck as follows: Bind off 20 sts., then 6 sts. every other row 2 times, then 4 sts. every other row 12 times, then 2 sts. 2 times, then increase for V neck and decrease right shoulder and armhole to correspond with left side. Work 9 rows even, bind off.

BACK—Work same as front working 66 rows even across back of neck.

WAIST BAND—With No. 0 needles pick up 140 sts. at bottom of front of sweater, K. 2 sts., P. 2 sts., (ribbing) for 5 inches, bind off. Work band on back to correspond. Sew underarm seams (stripes matching). Sew shoulder seams.

NECK BAND—With No. 1 needles cast on 224 sts., work same as front (starting P. 1 row, K. 1 row) for 2 rows, then bind off 3 sts. at beginning of next 6 rows. Work 2 rows even, then increase to correspond with decreases, bind off. Sew the two ends together forming V at center of front, then sew band around neck, (with purled stripe on right side of sweater).

SLEEVE BAND—Cast on 192 sts., work same as neck band, decreasing and increasing 2 sts. at each end to shape point at underarm. Sew band around armhole (with purled stripe on right side).
