Tee-Off Pullover Pattern #319

Size 38

Materials: Chadwick's Red Heart Knitting Worsted, 12 skeins (1¾ ounce skeins). Milward's Casein knitting pins, 1 pair No. 4 (3½ mm. size), and 1 pair No. 6 (4¼ mm. size).

Gauge: 5 sts make 1 inch; 7 rows make 1 inch.

Back. Starting at bottom, cast on 88 sts on No. 4 needles and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 3 inches. Change to No. 6 needles and work in pattern as follows: 1st row: P 1, * k 6, p 2, repeat from * across, ending row with k 6, p 1. 2nd row: P across. These 2 rows constitute the pattern. Repeat these 2 rows alternately until work measures 11½ inches from top of waistband.

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 3 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Then decrease 1 st at both ends of every other row until 74 sts remain. Then work in pattern straight until work measures 6½ inches from 1st row of armhole shaping, ending with a p row. Next row: Work in pattern across first 29 sts, bind off next 16 sts (for back of neck), continue in pattern across remaining 29 sts. To shape shoulders, work over these last 29 sts only, keeping armhole edge straight, decreasing 1 st at neck edge every row until 21 sts remain. On next row starting at armhole edge, bind off first 7 sts, work in pattern across. Next row: Work in pattern across. Repeat these last 2 rows until all sts are bound off. Attach yarn to opposite side of neck and work other shoulder to correspond.

Front. Work exactly as for back until work measures 6 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping, ending with a p row. Next row: Work in pattern across first 33 sts, bind off next 8 sts (to start neck shaping), continue in pattern across remaining 33 sts. Work over these last 33 sts only, keeping armhole edge straight, decreasing 1 st at neck edge every row until 21 sts remain. Then shape shoulder as for back. Attach yarn to opposite side and work other shoulder to correspond.

Sleeves. Starting at wrist, cast on 56 sts on No. 4 needles and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 3 inches. Change to No. 6 needles and work in pattern as for back for 23 rows. Increase 1 st at both ends of next row and every 8th row thereafter until there are 80 sts on needle. Work in pattern straight for 8 rows. To shape top of sleeve, decrease 1 st at both ends of each row until 24 sts remain on needle. Bind off.

Neck Band. With right side of work toward you, on No. 4 needles pick up 58 sts around back neck edge. Work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 1 inch. Bind off. Pick up 70 sts around front neck edge and work as for back.

After pieces have been blocked, sew up side and shoulder seams. Sew up sleeve seams and sew in sleeves.
