GAUGE: For Carriage Cover: 6 sts. = 1 inch
For Jacket and Hat: 7 sts. = 1 inch
PATTERN: Entire set is worked in garter st. 2 rows main color (m. c.) and 2 rows contrasting color (c. c.)
CARRIAGE COVER: Cast on with No. 4 needles and m. c. 152 sts. and work in pattern for 30 inch, or any desired length. Bind off. Border: Work 3 rows s. c. with c. c. around entire cover, going in every corner st. 3 times. Next row: with m. c. * work 1 s. c. in each of the next 2 sts., ch. 3, work 1 s. c. in first st. of the ch. 3 sts. (a picot made), skip 1, repeat from * around entire cover. Fasten off and steam lightly.
JACKET: With m. c. and No. 3 needles cast on 66 sts. for left Front. 1st row: (m.c.) K66. 2nd row: (c.c.) K52 (leaving rem. 14 sts. at end of row for yoke). 3rd row: (c.c.) turn, slip 1, K51. 4th row: (m.c.) K66. Repeat these 4 rows until front has 36 ridges (end at neck edge). Now start left sleeve. Next row: K37, slip rem. 29 sts. to a holder, cast on 33 sts. on same needle with 37 sts. (70 sts.). 1st row: K56. 2nd row: turn, slip 1, K49 (leave 6 sts. at end for cuff). 3rd row: turn, slip 1, K63 (neck edge). 4th row: K70 (cuff edge) (short rows are worked in c.c.). Repeat these 4 rows until sleeve has 43 ridges, end at cuff edge. Next row: bind off 33 sts., K to within 14 sts. of neck edge, turn, slip 1, K22, slip 29 sts. from holder of front to free needle and K these sts. to same needle (66 sts. in all). K66 sts. up to neck edge. Work Back as Front until Back is 65 ridges wide, end at neck edge. Work the Right Sleeve as the Left Sleeve and the Right Front as the Left Front. Bind off.
FINISHING: Sew up sleeve seams. With m. c. crochet 1 row s. c. around cuff of each sleeve. Starting at left corner of neck edge work 1 row s. c. down left front, around bottom and up right front of jacket. Fasten off. Neck: with m. c. work 1 row s. c. around neck edge skipping every other stitch. Work 2 more rows s. c. Next row: 1 s. c. in each of next 2 sts., * ch. 2, skip 2, 1 s. c. in each of next 4 sts., repeat from * all across row. Work one more row s. c. on top, then work 1 row of piquot as on Blanket, around the entire jacket and around the cuff edges. Pull ribbon through beading row and steam lightly.
HAT: With m. c. and No. 3 needles cast on 22 sts. 1st row: K22. 2nd row: K15 (leave rem. 7 sts. on needle). 3rd row: turn, slip 1, K14. 4th row: K22. Repeat these 4 rows until there are 10 ridges on wide side (neck edge) ending with 4th row at narrow side. Next row: K22, cast on 32 sts. Hatpart: 1st row: K47 sts. 2nd row: turn, slip 1, K46. 3rd row: K54. 4th row: K54. Repeat these 4 rows until hatpart has 68 ridges on wide part, end with 4th row at wide side. At beg. of next row bind off 32 sts. Work now on 32 sts. in pattern as the first 4 rows until 10 ridges from the bind off row. Bind off.
FINISHING: Sew cast on and bound-off sts. tog. With m. c. crochet around top edge of cap (small side) 3 rows s. c., decreasing 1 st. every other st. Pull sts. tog. and fasten off tightly on wrong side. With m. c. crochet 1 row s. c. around entire cap and work 1 row of piquot around entire cap as on Blanket. Turn back cuff and sew rosettes in place.
