MATERIAL:
3 (4) skeins Knitting Worsted (4 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 4 and No. 6
1 set sock needles No. 4
1 stitch holder

GAUGE: 5 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN: Stock. st. throughout the entire sweater.

BACK: Cast on 74 (78) sts. with No. 4 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 3 inch., incr. 2 (4) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 6 needles and stock. st. With 76 (82) sts. work even until the entire piece measures 11½ (12½) inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 4 (5) sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (64 (68) sts. left). Work even for 6 (6½) inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 6 (4) rows 6 (10) sts., rem. 28 sts. bind off for neck.

FRONT: Work the same way as back until armhole is bound off. Work even for 4 inch, from the first binding off. Work over 24 (26) sts. and slip them to a holder. Bind off for neck 16 sts. and then work over rem. 24 (26) sts. Bind off 2 sts. at neck edge every other row until 18 (20) sts. are left over. Work at high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 6 (10) sts. 3 (2) times. Connect yarn to other side of neck and finish to correspond.

SLEEVE: Sew up shoulder seam and pick up 60 (64) sts. with No. 6 needles and work in stock. st. for 3 (3½) inch. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and at the end of every 6th row until 48 (52) sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 14 (15½) inch, or any desired length to wrist. Decr, to 40 (42) sts. at even intervals across next row and K1, P1 for 2½ inch, on No. 4 needles. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Work the other sleeve to cor­respond.

FINISHING: Sew up side and sleeve seams. Right side facing you, pick up with No. 4 sockneedles 72 sts. around the neck and K1, P1 for 6 rows. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Steam lightly.
