GAUGE: 7 sts. = 1 inch
PATTERN: 1st row: * 11 seed sts., P2, K8, P2, repeat from * across row, end 11 seed sts.
From now on, work pattern as on Man's Sweater No. 207 having 11 seed sts. between each cable section.
BACK: Cast on 116 sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2½ inch., increasing 10 sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and pattern. With 126 sts. work even until the entire piece measures 13 inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 9 sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (104 sts. left). Work even for 7½ inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 6 rows 11 sts., rem. 38 sts. bind off for neck.
FRONT: Cast on 68 sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2½ inch, keeping the 7 center front sts. in seed st. for buttonhole border throughout the entire front. Incr. 4 sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and pattern. 1st row: 7 sts. seed st. (border), 9 sts. seed st. * P2, K8, P2, 11 sts. seed sts., repeat from * across row, end K8. With 72 sts. work even until the entire piece measures the same as back up to underarm. Bind off for armhole at seam edge 10 sts. and at the beg. of the next 2 rows at seam edge 2 sts. Decr. 1 st. at seam edge until 51 sts. are on needle. Work even for 5½ inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for neck 12 sts. at center edge and then always 2 sts. at neck edge until 33 sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 11 sts. 3 times. Work other front to correspond and make buttonholes in front border, starting first buttonhole after inch. (To make a buttonhole: work 3 sts. in seed st., bind off 3 sts., work to end of row. On next row, cast on 3 sts. over the 3 bound off sts.) Repeat buttonholes every 2 inch. 7 times more.
SLEEVE: Cast on 52 sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2½ inch., increasing 6 sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 4 needles and pattern. 1st row: P2, K8, P2, 11 seed, P2, K8, P2, 11 seed, P2, K8, P2. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and at the end of every 6th row until 94 sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 17½ inch, or any desired length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 6 sts. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until 72 sts. are left. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row until 58 sts. are on needle. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of each row until 34 sts. are left over. Bind off.
FINISHING: Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams and sew in sleeves. Right side facing you, pick up with No. 2 needles 88 sts. around the neck and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 8 rows. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Steam lightly and sew buttons in place.
