Jack Frost Fingering Fleece—10 1-oz. Balls
BACK: With No. 2 Needles cast on 118 sts. Work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 3½ in. Change to No. 4 Needles increasing to 122 sts at even intervals across row. Work in pattern as follows: Row 1 (right side)—* K 2, P 2, K 4, P 2, repeat from * across row ending K 2. Row 2—* P 2, K 2, P 4, K 2, repeat from * across row ending P 2. Repeat above 2 rows, working a cable twist over the ribs of K 4, on the 3rd and every 6th row thereafter as follows: slip the first 2 sts onto double pointed needle, hold in back of work. K the next 2 sts, then bring the 2 sts which were slipped, forward and K them. When piece measures 14 in. from lower edge, bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 4 times. Work even until piece measures 8½ in. from underarm. Bind off 8 sts at beginning of each of next 8 rows. Change to No. 2 needles increasing to 44 sts at even intervals across row. Work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 8 rows for neckband. Bind off.
FRONT: Work same as back to underarm, increasing to 132 sts after the ribbing instead of 122 as on back. Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 4 times. On the next row (right side), work over 54 sts, K 2 tog. Place on st.-holder. K the next 2 sts tog., work across row. Keeping armhole edge even, decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row 12 times, then every 4th row until 32 sts remain on needle. Work even until piece measures 8½ in. from underarm. Starting at shoulder edge, bind off 8 sts every other row 4 times. Work other side to correspond.
FRONT NECKBAND: With No. 2 Needles on right side of garment, pick up 90 sts from shoulder to point of V, 1 st at point of V, 90 sts from point of V to shoulder. Work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 8 rows, decreasing 1 st at each side of st at point of V on every row. Bind off, decreasing as given above.
Sew shoulder and underarm seams.
SLEEVES: With No. 2 Needles cast on 56 sts. Work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 3½ in. Change to No. 4 Needles, increasing to 72 sts at even intervals across row. Work in pattern as on back, increasing 1 st at each end on the 11th and every 10th row thereafter to 96 sts, then every 8th row to 106 sts. Work even until piece measures 22 in. from lower edge. Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 8 times. Bind off 2 sts at beginning of each of next 26 rows. Bind off remaining sts.
Sew sleeve seams. Sew sleeves in place.
