1 Set Double Pointed Steel Needles No. 13
Scale: 7½ sts. to 1 in.
Jack Frost Fingering Fleece—3 1-oz. Balls

Cast on 72 sts. Divide on 3 needles. Join, being careful not to twist. Work in ribbing of K. 2, P. 2, for 3 in., then work in ribbing of K. 5, P. 1, for 6½ in. Slip 35 sts. on one needle for heel. Work heel as follows: P. 2, * slip 1, K. 1, repeat from * ending P. 2. Turn, P. back. Repeat above 2 rows for 2 in.

TURNING OF HEEL—K. to within last 14 sts., K. 2 tog., in back of sts., turn. Slip 1 st., P. to within last 12 sts., P. 2 tog., turn. Slip 1, K. to within last 12 sts., K. 2 tog. in back of sts., turn. Slip 1, P. to within last 12 sts., P. 2 tog., turn. Continue in this manner, working 2 sts. less on each side, until all sts. are worked. With first needle, pick up 18 sts. on one side of heel, with 2nd needle, work in pattern of P. 1, K. 5, across instep. With 3rd needle, pick up 18 sts. on other side of heel. Work to center of heel. * Work 1 round even. On first needle, work to within last 4 sts., K. 2 tog., K. 2. On 2nd needle, work across instep. On 3rd needle, K. 2, K. 2 tog. in back of sts. Repeat from * until 72 sts. remain. Work even for 6½ in. P. 2 rounds. Complete toe as given for socks pattern. With tapestry needle, work a buttonhole st. over P. st. between ribs of K. 5 from cuff to toe, with any con­trasting color.
