Jack Frost Fingering Fleece—4 1-oz. Balls

Cast on 72 sts. loosely. Divide on 3 needles. Join, being care­ful not to twist. * P. 3, K. 3, repeat from * for 3 in., then work in pattern as follows:
Round 1—* P. 3, K. 3, repeat from * around.
Round 2—Repeat Round 1.
Round 3—P. 4, * K. 3, P. 3, repeat from * ending K. 3.
Repeat above 3 rounds until piece measures 7 in. from ribbing.

HEEL: Slip 36 sts. on one needle and work heel as follows: Slip 2 sts., * P. 1, slip 1 st., repeat from * to end, turn. Slip 1 st., K. across. Repeat above 2 rows 14 times. Turning of Heel—Slip 1 st., P. to within last 16 sts., P. 2 tog., P. 1, turn. Slip 1 st., K. to within last 16 sts., K. 2 tog. in back of sts., K. 1, turn. Continue as given above, having 3 less sts. on each side every row until all sts. have been worked. With first needle, pick up 18 sts. on one side of heel. With 2nd needle, work across instep in pattern. With 3rd needle, pick up 18 sts. on other side of heel, work to center of heel. * Work 1 round even. On first needle, K. to within last 3 sts., K. 2 tog., K. 1. On 2nd needle, work in pattern across instep. On 3rd needle, K. 1, K. 2 tog. in back of sts., K. to end of needle. Re­peat from * until 72 sts. remain. Work even until foot meas­ures 9 in., or desired length to starting of toe.

TOE: Starting from center of sole, divide sts. as follows: Place 18 sts. on first needle, 36 sts. on 2nd needle, and remaining 18 sts. on 3rd needle. K. to within last 4 sts. on first needle, K. 2 tog., K. 2. On 2nd needle, K. 2, K. 2 tog. in back of sts., K. to within last 4 sts., K. 2 tog., K. 2. On 3rd needle, K. 2, K. 2 tog. in back of sts., work to end of round. Work 1 round even. Repeat last 2 rounds until 10 sts. re­main. Bind off, knitting front and back sts. tog. as you bind off.
