MATERIALS

BERNAT Bob-o-Meadowspun (20 yd cards) — 1 Contrasting Color (C C)
1 pair straight knitting needles No. 5 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES WHICH WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW
1 steel crochet hook No. 2
14 flower applique motifs
GAUGE: 6 sts = 1 inch; 9 rows = 1 inch
PATTERN STITCH: Multiple of 2 sts plus 1.
Row 1: Purl.
Row 2 (right side): K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across row.
Repeat these 2 rows for pattern stitch.
BACK: Cast on 93(99-105-111) sts. Work even in pattern st for 6½(7-7½-8) inches. SHAPE ARMHOLES: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 5(5-6-7) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 4(5-6-6) times. Work even on 75(79-81-85) sts until armholes measure 5¾(6¼-6¾-7¼) inches. SHAPE SHOULDERS: At the beg of each of the next 4 rows bind off 8(8-9-9) sts. At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 8(9-8-9) sts. Bind off remaining 27(27-29-31) sts.
LEFT FRONT: Cast on 49(51-53-55) sts. Work even in pattern st for 6½(7-7½-8) inches. SHAPE ARMHOLE: At arm edge bind off 5(5-6-7) sts. Dec 1 st at same edge every other row 4(5-6-6) times. Work even on 40(41-41-42) sts until armhole measures 4½(5-5½-6) inches. SHAPE NECK: At front edge bind off 10 sts. Dec 1 st at same edge EVERY ROW 6(6-5-5) times. Work even on 24(25-26-27) sts until armhole measures 5¾(6¼-7¾-8¼) inches. SHAPE SHOULDER: At arm edge bind off 8(8-9-9) sts twice and 8(9-8-9) sts once.
RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.
SLEEVES: Cast on 59(63-65-69) sts. Work even in pattern st for 2 inches, ending with a P row. P the next row to reverse pattern and work even in pattern st until piece measures 4 inches. On the next row inc 1 st each end of needle and repeat this inc every ½ inch once more, forming new patterns as sts are increased. Work even on 63(67-69-73) sts until piece measures 5 inches. SHAPE CAP: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 5(5-6-7) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row for 2¾(33¼-3¾-4¼) inches. At the beg of each of the next 6 rows bind off 3 sts. Bind off remaining sts.
COLLAR: Cast on 75(75-79-79) sts. Work even in pattern st for 2 inches. Bind off.
FINISHING: Sew underarm, shoulder and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves. Sew on collar. EDGING: Row 1: With right side facing you, work 1 row s c around all edges of jacket and collar, working 3 s c in each corner, ch 1, turn. Row 2: Work 1 s c in each s c. Work same edging around lower edge of sleeves. Turn back cuffs and, with right side facing you, work 1 row s c around hemline of cuffs. Block. Sew on flower appliques; 6 on each front and 1 on each cuff. Using 2 strands of C C, embroider stems, as shown in photograph. Fasten at neck with hook and eye.
