These directions are for subteen size 8. Changes for subteen sizes 10, 12 and 14 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS
BERNAT Nylo Germantown (2 oz. skeins) — 6(7-7-8) Main Color (M C)
BERNAT Bob-o-Germantown (20 yd. cards) — 2 each Colors A and B
1 pair each straight knitting needles Nos. 5 and 8 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES WHICH WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW
1 set d p needles No. 5

GAUGE: 5 sts = 1 inch; 6 rows = 1 inch

PATTERN STITCH: Multiple of 13(13-14-14) sts plus 12(3-0-4).
Rows 1, 3 and 7: K 1(3-2-4), * P 2, K 6, P 2, K 3(3-4-4), repeat from *, ending K 1(3-2-4) instead of K 3(3-4-4).
Rows 2, 4 and 6: P 1(3-2-4), * K 2, P 6, K 2, P 3(3-4-4), repeat from * ending P 1(3-2-4) instead of P 3(3-4-4).
Row 5: K 1(3-2-4), * sl next 3 sts onto d p needle and hold in front of work, K next 3 sts, K 3 sts from d p needle (cable twist), P 2, K 3(3-4-4), repeat from * ending K 1(3-2-4) instead of K 3(3-4-4).
Row 8: Repeat Row 2.
Repeat these 8 rows for pattern stitch.

BACK: Using No. 5 needles and M C, cast on 72(76-80-84) sts. K 2, P 2 in ribbing for 2½ inches. P the next row, inc at even intervals to 77(81-84-88) sts. Change to No. 8 needles and work even in pattern st until piece measures 11(11½- 12-12½) inches, ending with a right side row. SHAPE ARMHOLES: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 4(5-5-5) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 4(4-4-5) times. Work even on 61(63-66-68) sts until armholes measure 5½(6-6½-7) inches. SHAPE SHOUL­DERS: At the beg of each of the next 4 rows bind off 5 sts. At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 5(6-6-6) sts. Sl remaining 31(31-34-36) sts onto a holder.

FRONT: Work to correspond to back until armholes measure 4½(5-5½-6) inches, ending with a wrong side row. SHAPE NECK: Work 19(20-21-21) sts; sl center 23(23-24-26) sts onto a holder, join another ball of yarn and work last 19(20-21-21) sts. Working on both sides at once at each neck edge dec 1 st EVERY ROW 4(4-5-5) times. SHAPE SHOULDERS: At each arm edge bind off 5 sts twice and 5(6-6-6) sts once.

SLEEVES:Using No. 5 needles and Color A, cast on 36(40- 40-44) sts. K 2, P 2 in ribbing for 4 rows. Break off Color A. Using M C, K 1 row, then K 2, P 2 in ribbing for 5 rows. Using Color B, K 1 row, then K 2, P 2 in ribbing for 3 rows. Break off Color B. Using M C, K 1 row, then K 2, P 2 in ribbing until piece measures 3 inches, inc 1 st each end of last row — 38(42-42-46) sts. Change to No. 8 needles and work in pattern st, inc 1 st each end of needle every 1½ inches 7(7-8-8) times, forming new patterns as sts are in­creased. Work even in pattern as established on 52(56-58-62) sts until piece measures 15½(16-16½-17) inches. SHAPE CAP: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 4(4-5-5) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row for 3(3½-4-4½) inches. At the beg of each of the next 6 rows bind off 3 sts. Bind off remaining sts.

FINISHING: Sew underarm, shoulder and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves. TURTLE NECK: Using d p needles and M C, with right side facing you, pick up 84(84-88-88) sts around neck, including sts from holders. K 2, P 2 in ribbing for 3 inches. Join Color B, turn and K 1 round from wrong side. Then K 2, P 2 in ribbing for 3 rounds. Break off Color B. Using M C, K 1 round. Then K 2, P 2 in ribbing for 5 rounds. Break off M C. Using Color A, K 1 round, then K 2, P 2 in ribbing for 3 rounds. Bind off in ribbing. Block.
