Girl's Stocking Cap Pattern

MATERIALS:
You have a choice of two wools for this stocking cap, Beehive Caressa or P & B Speedwell, Quick Knit Wool and 2 ozs. of each of two colours (A) and (B) will make it in either wool. For a satisfactory size, do be careful to choose one or other of these two wools. You will also need: Two No. 5 Beehive Knitting Needles.

HEAD SIZE: 21 to 22 ins.

Tension: 4½ sts. and 6 rows = 1 inch in Stocking st.

With (A) wool cast on 72 sts. Due to the elasticity of the knitting, the cap will stretch to fit head sizes as given above.
1st row: *K2. P2. Repeat from * to end of row. Repeat 1st. row until there are 20 ribbed rows in all. Join (B) wool and proceed:—
1st decreasing row: With (B), (K10. K2tog.) 6 times. Beginning with purl row, work 5 rows even in Stocking st. with (B), then 2 rows with (A). Work these 7 rows after each of the following decreasing rows.
2nd decreasing row: With (B), (K2tog. K9) 6 times.
3rd decreasing row: With (B), (K8. K2tog.) 6 times.
4th decreasing row: With (B), (K2tog. K7) 6 times. (48 sts. on needle).
5th decreasing row: With (B), (K10, K2tog.) 4 times.
6th decreasing row: With (B), (K2tog. K9) 4 times.
7th decreasing row: With (B), (K8. K2tog.) 4 times.
8th decreasing row: With (B), (K2tog. K7) 4 times.
9th decreasing row: With (B), (K6. K2tog.) 4 times.
10th decreasing row: With (B), (K2tog. K5) 4 times. (24 sts. on needle). When the 7 rows even have been worked, break (A) wool and proceed:—
1st row: (K4. K2tog.) 4 times. Purl 1 row.
3rd row: (K3. K2tog.) 4 times. Purl 1 row.
5th row: (K2. K2tog.) 4 times. Purl 1 row.
7th row: (K1. K2tog.) 4 times.
8th row: (P2tog.) 4 times. Break wool. Thread end through re­maining sts. Draw up and fasten securely. Sew up back seam. Make a pom-pom with (A) wool and sew to top. For making pom-pom, see patternbook page.
